Who We Are

Church of the Ascension is a new Anglican church plant in Anderson, SC. We are a church plant of the Diocese of the Carolinas and the Anglican Church in North America. Church of the Ascension began with a group of Anglicans praying for a church in Anderson. This led to meetings with Bp. David Bryan (of the Diocese of the Carolinas) and the KARDIA Church Planting Initiative about the need for a new Anglican parish in Anderson and with that the need for a church planter. After continued prayer and discernment, Bp. Bryan sent out a letter on the Feast of the Ascension (2022) announcing the appointment of the Rev’d Chase Edgar to be the church planter in Anderson. You can learn more about Fr. Chase here.

As a growing community, our life together is rooted in the ancient, sacramental traditions of the church. We rely on centuries-old rhythms and emphases, trusting that as we walk in these ancient paths, we will find rest for our souls (Jer. 6:16). We believe, above all else, in the Gospel of Jesus Christ as it was delivered to the church through the Apostles - “that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” This message is good news because it means forgiveness, healing, identity, and union with God for all who accept and believe it. We also believe that the sacraments (Baptism and the Eucharist) are means of that forgiveness, healing, identity, and union with God.
